Cryptocurrency usage is growing faster then ever before, with cryptocurrency-based crime hitting an all-time high in 2021. The private sector reports that illicit addresses received $14 billion over the course of the year; research from acadeima suggests this figure sits closer to $72 billion. Whilst the proportion of cryptocurrency use associated with illicit activities compared to legitimate use has decreased overtime, the scale of illlicit use represents a significant challenge for Law Enforcement.
