Practitioners and Solution Providers to Collaborate on Crypto Asset Topic in the Second Edition of JLE

The CYCLOPES project is a 5-year, EU-funded initiative dedicated to supporting practitioners fighting various forms of cybercrime.

The project organises yearly ‘Joint Live Exercises’ (JLE) dedicated to a specific thematic topic. In 2022, the project focused on Digital Forensics, specifically tools that support officers with cases connected to Mobile Devices and Wearable Technologies. This topic was the focus of the very first CYCLOPES Practitioners’ Workshop organised in October 2021. You can read more about the first JLE this event here.

The second edition of the event takes place at the Headquarters of the Police Administration in Croatia’s capital, Zagreb. The Croatian Police is kindly hosting the event, where we will see practitioners from across Europe combining to test and interact with leading European solutions that support law enforcement agencies in tackling the rising challenges of crimes connected with various crypto assets.

To help deliver greater value and a more dynamic event, CYCLOPES has an experienced organisational team consisting of experts from Poland, the UK and The Netherlands. Moreover, the project is partnering with the Anti-Finter project, which will help implement the technical aspects of the scenario created by CYCLOPES’ experts.

Event Details

The aim is to prepare an exercise with a scenario containing the areas where European law enforcement agencies (LEAs) would like to strengthen. Scenarios will be based on identified gaps and requirements, helping to create a narrative for the event that will be interesting and engaging.

Technology providers are invited to apply and present solutions covering the areas of interest.

During the JLE, practitioners will be divided into groups with tasks distributed between them. During dedicated sessions, the practitioners will use the demonstrated solutions at the joint live exercise event to capture the required information for the hypothetical scenario.

Who is Invited?

This annual session will be dedicated to a group of around 25 law enforcement practitioners, as well as representatives of industry and science that provide appropriate solutions. Providers will deliver short training, familiarising those in attendance with the novel solutions and methods required to execute the scenario.

CYCLOPES anticipates 3-4 solutions providers to be invited to the event. Each will spend approximately 4-6 hours working with crypto-asset investigators from 10+ European countries. EUROPOL, CEPOL and the EJCN will all be invited to observe and contribute to the event’s sessions.

How to Participate?

Solution providers must apply and present their solution/service to practitioners.

LEAs from across Europe will review and assess the proposals provided by SMEs, Industry and Research organisations.

Officers are interested in seeing solutions that are not readily available, especially those that go beyond the current ‘state of the art’. Also, providers should consider that LEAs will be attracted to visually engaging presentations that address the specific challenges identified during December’s workshop.

The successful applicants will be invited to participate in the physical meeting and will receive a specific scenario that enables them to showcase their offering to relevant members of the law enforcement community. Presenters are expected to provide a short training and introduction to their solution before giving officers an opportunity to test and work with the solution in person. Three or four providers will be chosen and each will be given 4+ hours to spend with practitioners during the event.

The CYCLOPES project covers the organisational costs of the event, but each presenter must cover their travel, accommodation and sustenance.

LEAs – Join the Network and Register to Attend

Project partners and community members will be given the first opportunity to register, with priority going to practitioners that contributed to the project’s requirement gathering session in Riga, Latvia, during December 2022.

Any remaining spaces will be offered to practitioners on a first-come-first-served basis.

Registration is now open for the CYCLOPES network and community – if you are interested in participating, please complete the registration form.

However, spaces for the event are limited; please only apply if you know you can attend. The project will provide spaces on a first-come-first-served basis to the relevant practitioners.

External LEAs will have their travel expenses provided by the project (travel, accommodation and sustenance).

Interested parties should join the CYCLOPES network to be kept updated about possibilities to participate to this or relevant events.
